JetHawks Sign with Astros

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

The Lancaster JetHawks have signed a player development agreement with the Houston Astros, Houston’s first entry into the California League in more than 40 years.  The initial agreement is for two years, with an automatic renewal after the 2010 season.

The JetHawks were the Boston Red Sox affiliate since 2006. The Red Sox were unhappy with the distance between Boston and Lancaster, and went so far as to buy their own Single A Advance team, the Salem Avalanche of the Carolina League.  The Avalanche had served in the Astros’ farm system.  With the move, Boston and Houston are essentially swapping affiliation.
