Oaks to Change NameNew name yet to be announced.Monday, September 8, 2008 The Visalia Oaks will be changing their name from the “Oaks” to a name yet to be announced. While the front office will not disclose the new name, the team has confirmed to CaProParks.com that the moniker will change prior to the 2009 season. Inside sources have suggested the new name will be the “Visalia Rawhide,” a follow up to the team’s Dairy Day and Cowbell Section promotions, but other names including the “Visalia Generals” and the “Visalia Venom” have been mentioned. The team has been the Arizona Diamondback Single A Advanced affiliate since the 2007 season and recently announced a renewal of their two year player development agreement with the Diamondbacks, making them the Diamondback affiliate through the 2010 season. The team has been known as the Oaks since 1977 after having been out of baseball in 1976, the only year the city did not have a team dating back to 1968 when the Visalia Mets joined the league. The team was known as the Central Valley Rockies during the 1993 and 1994 seasons. Reader FeedbackThere are no comments yet for this article. Be the first to post!
