Playoff UpdateBreakdown of all three California minor leagues.Friday, September 5, 2008 California League Round One Lake Elsinore wins best of three series 2-0 over Inland Empire. After Wednesday's night game was suspended before the top of the ninth with Lake Elsinore leading 10-5, the Storm held on to win the game on Thursday with a 10-7 victory. Later that same night, the Storm defeated the 66ers 8-2. Lake Elsinore will next play in Lancaster beginning Saturday night for the second round best of five series with the JetHawks. Modesto and Stockton tied one game apiece. This contest is proving to be a trilling mini-series between the San Joaquin Valley rivals. After losing game one to the Modest Nuts 6-5 in 10 innings, Stockton trailed 6-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth before scoring five runs over the next three innings to win the game 7-6. The decisive game three is tonight in Stockton. Golden Baseball League Long Beach and Orange County tied one game apiece. In the Golden Baseball League South Division championship, Orange County took game one 4-2 on Tuesday, while Long Beach took game two Wednesday night 5-4 in 11 innings on a wild finish when an injured Pat Breen lay on the field while two runs scored including an in-the-park homerun. Unfortunately, the brick outfield wall offers a scary facade to an otherwise prestine setting at Blair Field. Breen fell victim to this wall when he ran into it chasing a fly ball by Norm Hutchins that won the game for Long Beach. A bloodied Breen stayed down for 15 minutes before walking off the field with the help of trainers and paramedics. He was taken to a local hospital via ambulance for a cut over his left eye, a possible concussion and a possible broken nose. The series had appeared to turn ungly after a bench clearing near brawl in the eighth inning, but after a short celebration from Long Beach after Hutchins scored, players from both teams stood together concerned about Breen's condition. The best of five series resumes tonight in Fullerton. Pacific Coast League Sacramento and Salt Lake tied one game apiece. Salt Lake took game one on Wednesday 13-10, while the River Cats took game two 8-3 on Thursday. Both games were played in Sacramento. The series now moves to Salt Lake for games 3, 4, and 5 (if needed). Reader FeedbackThere are no comments yet for this article. Be the first to post!
