GBL Adds Tucson

The Tucscon Toros will be one of at least 8 GBL teams to take the field in 2009.

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

The Golden Baseball League today announced that an agreement has been reached with Jay Zucker, former owner of the Tuscon Sidewinders, to bring a GBL team  to Tucson for the 2009 season.  The team will be taking on the Toros moniker, the name used by the former Pacific Coast League team that played in Tucson between 1969 and 1993.  The team will play its 2009 schedule at 9,500 seat Hi Corbett Field, the Spring Training stadium of the Colorado Rockies.

While a press release from the GBL makes no mention as to whether or not this team is an expansion team, or the relocation site of the Reno Silver Sox, the release did say "at least 8-team GBL" specifically identifying teams in Calgary, Edmonton, St. George, Yuma, Chico, Orange County, and Long Beach in addition to Tucson.
