Lake Elsinore to Remain Padres Affiliate

Storm, Padres extend agreement through 2012.

Thursday, August 28, 2008

As expected, the Lake Elsinore Storm and the San Diego Padres have signed a new player development agreement keeping the Storm as the Padres' Single A Advanced affiliate through the 2012 season.  The Storm were one of six teams in the ten team California League with affiliation agreements set to expire at the end of this season.  Lake Elsinore has been part of the Padres farm system since 2001, and just about everyone familar with the two teams expected the relationship to continue.  Not only does the affiliation work geographically, giving the Padres the opportunity to have players rehab with a team only 75 miles from Petco Park, but The Diamond is considered one of the better facilities in minor league baseball.  The Padres and Storm have also had one of the better shared fan bases in Single A ball.
