Ports, Athletics Extend Player Development Contract

Two-year extension to keep Stockton Ports an A's affiliation through 2012

Friday, July 25, 2008

The Stockton Ports and Oakland Athletics have announced a two-year extension to their player development contract.  The contract, which previously was set to expire n 2010, will now run through the 2012 season.  The Ports have held affiliations with a number of teams, most recently the Texas Rangers, before becoming the A's affiliate before the 2005 season.  Affiliation with the geographically closest Major League team, along with their move into a new stadium, has propelled the team from one of the worst in attendace in the California League to record attendance for the team in 2006 and 2007.

A number of Cal League teams will have their player development contracts with their parent organizations expire after this season.
