Ports, Athletics Extend Player Development ContractTwo-year extension to keep Stockton Ports an A's affiliation through 2012Friday, July 25, 2008 The Stockton Ports and Oakland Athletics have announced a two-year extension to their player development contract. The contract, which previously was set to expire n 2010, will now run through the 2012 season. The Ports have held affiliations with a number of teams, most recently the Texas Rangers, before becoming the A's affiliate before the 2005 season. Affiliation with the geographically closest Major League team, along with their move into a new stadium, has propelled the team from one of the worst in attendace in the California League to record attendance for the team in 2006 and 2007.
