Three More GBL Players to MLB Organizations

Two Armada, One Roadrunner Have Contracts Purchased

Wednesday, July 2, 2008

June proved to be a good month for Golden Baseball League players hoping to get on with a major league club.   Three more players had their contracts sold to major league organizations over the last week and a half of the month.  These deals bring the total for the month to four, making it the best month in GBL history in terms of its player development.

The Los Angeles Dodgers picked up two players, RHP Jerome Williams on June 23 and Infielder Brandon Taylor on June 30.  Williams, formerly of the Long Beach Armada, was the second player in a core of former major leaguers and former first round draft with the Armada picks to be picked up, following Davis Parrish earlier in the season.  Williams appeared in 76 games for the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, and Washington Nationals before signing with Long Beach in 2008.  Williams was signed to a minor league contract with the Dodgers and assigned to Inland Empire of the California League.  Brandon Taylor was picked up from the St. George Roadrunners.  Taylor spent two years in the Chicago Cubs organization following a successful college career at Brigham Young University.

James Guerrero’s contract was sold to the Colorado Rockies on June 23.  He is the third Armada player to join a major league club this season.  Guerrero was drafted by the Florida Marlins in 2005, but was released in May after a slow start in the Florida State League.  His was immediately assigned by the Rockies to the Modesto Nuts keeping him in California, at least for now.
