California All-Stars Fall to Carolina League

Carolina League wins all-star game against California League 3-1.

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

An eighth inning home run by Edgardo Baez of the Potomac Nationals broke a tight 1-1 game to give the Carolina League all-stars a 3-1 victory over their California League counterparts.  Brandon Hicks of the host Myrtle Beach Pelicans had an RBI single in the same inning.  Stockton’s Archie Gilbert singled in the lone run of the game in the fifth inning for the California League.  Jesse English of San Jose took the lost giving up 2 runs on two hits in just a 1/3 of an inning pitched.

The game was played at BB&T Coastal Field in Myrtle Beach.  Interestingly enough, Baez’s home run was a rarity at BB&T Coastal Field.  Considered a park where home runs in general are hard to come by, Baez’s hit came to part of the field known as the hardest part of the park to hit one out, the right-center field alley.
