Best of California
Here are my picks of some of the best California ballparks have to offer.
Friday, May 9, 2008
I am frequently asked which ballpark is my favorite. That’s a difficult question. Well, not really since I know which park I like the best, but I really do like all of them. Every stadium has something to like, and something to not like. I have never once written a review where I did not have both pros and cons, and I likely never will. Besides, how can your really compare your Angel Stadium to Sam Lynn Ballpark?
I do recommend that fans go to ALL the ballparks, because they are ALL great! That being said, I thought maybe I might put together a list of some of my favorites in a few select categories. Since this site is dedicated to California baseball, I will limit the discussion to the best of California. These are my favorites, be free to comment if you disagree.
Best concession food: Arrowhead Credit Union – San Bernardino. Honorable mention goes to Chukchansi Park (Fresno) for having such great variety at a minor league stadium, and Petco Park (San Diego) for have just the right amount of local flavor thrown into the mix.
Best barbeque: Municipal Stadium – San Jose.
Best views: AT&T Park – San Francisco. Honorable mention goes to Petco Park (San Diego).
Best views of the game: Dodger Stadium – Los Angeles (taking into account just how big the stadium is, there’s not a bad seat in the house). Honorable mention goes to most of the California League Stadiums.
Closest to the action: Recreation Park – Visalia. Honorable mention goes to Sam Lynn Ballpark (Bakersfield) for such easy interaction between fans and players.
Best inter-inning entertainment: Municipal Stadium – San Jose. Honorable mention goes to The Epicenter (Rancho Cucamonga) for having the best mascots.
Best fans: Nettleton Stadium – Chico. Honorable mention goes to The Diamond (Lake Elsinore).
Best playing surface (from a fan’s perspective): Blair Field – Long Beach
Best all around experience: The Diamond – Lake Elsinore. Only made the rest of this list one time as an honorable mention, but there is just something about seeing a game at The Diamond that is special. Honorable mention goes to Dodger Stadium (Los Angeles) and Municipal Stadium (San Jose).
