Joe Borchard hits for the cycle.

Goes 5-for-6 in Grizzlies win.

Tuesday, May 4, 2010

Joe Borchard hit for the cycle in going 5-for-6 in the Fresno Grizzlies' (Triple-A) 14-4 pounding of the host Colorado Springs Sky Sox. He got his triple, the rarest base hit outside of an in-the-park home run, in the first inning.  He then hit singles in the third and fifth, a double in the sixth, and a home run in the eighth.  His homer was his fifth of the season.   His at bat in the ninth inning was the only time in the game he failed to reach base. His six RBIs moved him into a tie for the most in Pacific Coast League with 22.  Borchard is currently hitting .367, third highest in the PCL.

It was the first time the 31-year-old Borchard hit for the cycle as a professional.

Borchard's cycle was the third in Minor League Baseball so far this season, all coming in the PCL.  Most recently, Scott Cousins hit for the cycle for the New Orleans Zephyrs on Saturday night.  Jarrett Hoffpauir accomplished the same feat for the Las Vegas 51s on April 25.
