Grizzlies' Hacker the first in PCL to win four gamesIn four starts, the right handed pitcher has walked just three batters and struck out 24.Thursday, April 29, 2010 Where did Eric Hacker come from? The 27-year-old Hacker wasn't exactly a household name in Fresno, until now that is. In his seventh season as a minor leaguer, Hacker of the Fresno Grizzlies is the first pitcher in the Pacific Coast League to win four games after Tuesday's 8-2 Grizzlies victory over the Portland Beavers. He has a 1.25 ERA, and opposing teams are hitting just .200 against the right handed pitcher. In 21 2/3 innings, Hacker has given up just three runs on 16 hits with no home runs. Even more impressive, he's walked only three batters while striking out 24. Drafted in the 23rd round of the 2002 draft, Hacker has quietly had a very successful minor league career despite missing the 2004 and 2006 seasons. Lifetime, he is 40-22 with a 3.11 ERA. His best season was 2007 when he went 13-5 with a 3.64 ERA between Single-A, Single-A Advanced and Triple -A. In 2009 he was a late season call-up for the Pittsburgh Pirates, appearing in three games but posting a less than stellar 6.0 ERA. He signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants in December and could be well on his way to Triple-A All-Star appearance in July.
