A's and Ports extend Player Development contract

Stockton to remane A's affiliate through 2014

Friday, April 16, 2010

The Stockton Ports announced that they have extended their player development contract with the Oakland Athletics.  The Ports will be the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Athletics through the 2014 season. The previous agreement between the two teams was set to expire after the 2012 season.

"We are delighted to continue our relationship with the Ports and the Stockton community through at least the 2014 season," said Billy Beane, vice president and general manager of the A's. "As a Single-A affiliate, Stockton provides us with an ideal situation in regards to a first-class playing facility, a supportive fan base and its close proximity to the Bay Area. We look forward to continuing this very successful association."

The Stockton Ports become the Oakland Athletics affiliate in 2005, the same year the team moved into Banner Island Ballpark.  Since that time, the Ports have set team attendance records in three of the five seasons played there.  Their regular season record as an Oakland affiliate is 348-352. The Ports most successful season came in 2008 when they won the California League championship.
