Kazmir to make rehab start for Rancho Cucamonga

Friday, April 9, 2010

Two time Major League All-Star Scott Kazmir will be making a rehab start on Friday for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Single-A Advanced).  Kazmir, who told MLB.com's Lyle Spencer he was "very surprised" when the Los Angeles Angels placed him on the disabled list retroactive to March 31, will be replaced in the Angels rotation by Matt Palmer.

Kazmir would have started tonight's against the Oakland Athletics, but the team's management didn't want to take any chances.  Kazmir has just recovered from a hamstring strain and experienced stiffness in his pitching shoulder near the end of spring training.  He is scheduled for 95 pitches in tonight's game against the Inland Empire 66ers.  If all goes well in his Quakes outing, Kazmir is expected to rejoin the Angels rotation next week.
