Shortstop on Two Opposing Teams in the Same Game

Traded from the Red Sox to the Dodgers, Christian Lara Suits Up for Lascaster/Inland Empire in the Same Game

Monday, April 14, 2008

How can a player be on a part of the same game, for two different teams?  The minor leagues offer some unique player transitions, especially given the proximity of teams in the California League, but this really had to have the stars align to make it happen.

On Monday, April 7, Christian Lara was playing for the Lancaster JetHawks (Boston Red Sox affiliate) against the Inland Empire 66ers (Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate).  The game was suspended after 15 innings tied at 3-3, per California League rules which do not allow an inning to start after 11:50 pm.  Following the stoppage, Lara, who suited up but did not play in the game, was traded by the Red Sox to the Dodgers.

The following day, the game continued with the JetHawks winning 6-3 after 18 innings.  This time Lara suited up for the 66ers, although like the previous night, he did not appear in the game.  Lara did play in Tuesday’s regularly schedule game, for the 66ers.  The shortstop went 0 for 1 with 2 walks against his former team.
