The Chico Outlaws of the Golden Baseball League (Independent) announced Gary Templeton as their new manager. A 16-year major league veteran and former National League All-Star, Templeton moves to the Outlaws after spending 2009 managing the Long Beach Armada. In addition to his experience at Long Beach, Templeton spent four seasons managing in the Anaheim Angels farm system, reaching as high as Triple-A with the Edmonton Trappers (2000) and Salt Lake Stingers (2001). He also managed two seasons in the independent Northern League. “I’ve wanted to manage in Chico since the first year of the GBL,” said Templeton. “This is the best place to play in the league with the best fans and a great facility.” Templeton also pointed to a number of returning players, suggesting fans should be looking forward to improved performance. The 2009 team finished 11 games under .500 after getting off to a strong start.Reader FeedbackPost a CommentFeedback Rules:

What a thrill for Chico! Born a few years after Gary Templeton, I grew up with him (hundreds of miles away) and lived in the midwest to celebrate his years in St. Louis. As a shortstop myself, I watched and learned from him. Maybe the Outlaws will learn a few things too!
