Modesto to Host 2011 All-Star Game

Saturday, January 9, 2010

Modesto's John Thurman Field will host the 2011 All-Star Game between the Carolina League and the California League, both Single A Advanced leagues.  The game will be played on June 21, 2011.  The event includes two days of activities hosted by the Modesto Nuts including a welcome reception, Fan Fest, and postgame parties.

The two leagues first started playing an All-Star Game in 1996, with the Carolina League taking 6 of the 11 decided contests.  Two games have ended in ties.  The 2009 All-Star Game, held in Lake Elsinore, California, was won by the California League 2-1 in the bottom of the 10th on a lead-off home run by Lancaster Jethawks outfielder Jon Gaston.

The host of the event alternates between leagues each year.  The hosting city is decided on by vote of general managers of the hosting league, in this case the California League general managers.  The 2011 game will be the first time Modesto has hosted the All-Star classic.  The 2010 All-Star Game will be played June 22 in Myrtle Beach, Florida.
