San Jose Giants Introduces New Home Uniforms

New Look Very Similar to San Francisco Giants

Thursday, January 7, 2010

In another move to more closely associate the San Jose Giants with their parent club, the team yesterday introduced a new official home uniform.  With a look very similar to the parent San Francisco organization, San Jose will now be wearing a white jersey with the word “Giants” in black and orange trim across the chest and black and orange trim around the neck and sleeves.  The team will also be wearing white pants with a single white and black pin stripe.

The biggest change for the Giants will be their team cap.  While still featuring the interlocking “S” and “J”, the logo will now be in orange on a black cap, rather than the black cap with white logo previously worn.  Additionally, the Giants will be wearing a black and orange cap with a single “G” for batting practice, a batting practice cap nearly identical to the big league Giants.  Although the San Jose Giants have worn black and orange at home in the past, the move is an attempt to more closely associate San Jose’s team with the San Francisco Giants.

“The new San Jose Giants uniform reflects not only the name but now the colors of the parent organization,” said Bobby Evans, San Francisco Giants Vice President of Baseball Operations.

San Francisco’s interest in the San Jose Giants goes beyond its player development agreement with the team.  The organization also purchased a 25% stake in the San Jose Giants at the start of the 2009 season.  The recent moves to more closely associate the two teams could be an effort to strengthen San Francisco’s MLB recognized territorial rights to the South Bay, a sticking point to San Jose city leaders and others interested in relocating the Oakland Athletics to San Jose.
