Only One Spot Remains in California League PlayoffsHigh Desserts Clinches South DivisionFriday, September 4, 2009
In the North, first half and second half champion San Jose will play the winner of a three game series between Modesto and Bakersfield. That is set, although home field advantage remains up in the air. Bakersfield’s first playoff appearance in 8 years was secured when they took three of four from the Nuts earlier this week. Modesto, which enjoyed a strong first half, but is only at .500 in the second, is currently tied with Bakersfield for the second seed with four games to play. In the South, High Desert secured their second half crown to go along with the first half championship and a first round bye. Lake Elsinore has already secured their second place seed. The question remains, however, who will they play. Right now, that appears to be Rancho Cucamonga, who only needs to win one of the next four to secure that final spot. The Quakes are facing a hot Bakersfield club, however, while the only other team with a chance, Inland Empire, is facing Lancaster. The 66ers would have to win all four games to go along with four Rancho Cucamonga loses to force a tie-breaker. It’s safe to say that the odds are heavily stacked against Inland Empire.Reader FeedbackThere are no comments yet for this article. Be the first to post!
