San Jose Giants Complete Divisional Sweep

For the second year in a row, Giants win both halves of the season.

Saturday, August 29, 2009

The San Jose Giants completed their North division sweep by taking the second of half of the season with an 6-3 win over Lancaster.  The Giants also needed a little help as Bakersfield and Stockton both lost their games.  The Blaze lost to the Modesto Nusts 6-2, while the Ports lost in dramatic fashion 8-7 to Rancho Cucamonga who trailed 7-1 going into the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Giants, already assured a first round bye, will likely face either Modesto or Bakersfield for a five game series in the second round of the playoffs.  For the 2008 season, the Giants also swepts both halves, and had far and away the best record in the league, before losing their only playoff series to a scrappy Stockton Ports team in five games.  The Ports eventually went on to beat Lancaster for the league championship.
