Records Fall in Lake Elsinore 33-18 win over High DesertMcOwen breaks hit streak mark with 36 straightMonday, June 29, 2009
What a night in the desert. The Lake Elisnore Storm scored 33 runs on 32 hits, breaking the California League record for hits and falling one shy on runs, in its 33-18 drumming of the High Desert Mavericks. The combined 51 runs also broke a California League record. Oh yeah, James McOwen of High Desert broke the California League hit streak record with hits in 36 straight games. Other records broken included game length (4 hours, 10 minutes), RBI’s by a team, and Matt Clark of Lake Elsinore tied the record for runs at seven. The Mavericks used eight pitchers, including one who is normally a catcher, and another who is usually a designated hitter. Lake Elsinore scored eight in the first, six in the ninth, and five in both the third and ninth innings. Neither teams scored in the six or seventh innings, and High Desert failed to score in the bottom of the third, otherwise the entire game was an offensive clinic. The Mavericks had 26 hits in the loss. High Desert also had five errors to just one for Lake Elsinore.Reader FeedbackThere are no comments yet for this article. Be the first to post!
