In a game that was billed as pitting Carolina League pitching versus California League hitting, it was California’s pitching, and a sudden blast from Lancaster’s lone representative that won it for the league from the Golden State. After taking an early 1-0 lead on Buster Posey’s RBI single in the bottom of the first, California pitching kept Carolina at bay until the top of the eight, when Frederick Keys hit a lead-off triple, then scored on a fielding error by second baseman Matthew Lawson (Bakersfield). Despite the pitching duel, the night belonged to Jon Gaston, who had strike-out his first three at bats. Gaston took the first pitch of the inning from Derrick Loop (Salem) deep to win it for California.
