Mavericks Take Commanding Lead

Nine game win streak propels Mavs to front of the pack.

Thursday, May 28, 2009

In the California League, where the first half of the season always seems to teeter between the haves and the have nots, one team has emerged, thanks to a nine game winning streak through Wednesday night.  The High Desert Mavericks seem to do no wrong, at least in the batting category.  RF Carlos Peguero (4 home runs and 11 rbi just last week) and 3B Alex Liddi (.367 batting average) have been on fire.  LHP Donal Hume has won three stright decisions to boost a pitching staff that has struggled from time to time.  The team's record is 32-14 and they have a seven game lead over second place Lake Elsinore (25-21).  As long as the Mavericks can continue to score, they are well positioned to take the first half of the season.
