![]() Bring on the PromotionsMay is a Good Month for Out-of the-Ordinary Game PromotionsTuesday, May 12, 2009 There are certain times of year that quirky minor league promotions seem plentiful. May is just such a time. With the season well under way and the excitement of opening day past, but summer not quite here, teams get creative in their efforts to fill seats in the stands. I am not talking about the mainstay “Thirsty Thursdays” or “Firework Fridays”. These are promotions like Lake Elsinore’s Star Trek night (Thursday, May 14) were coming to the game dressed as your favorite character from Star Trek will get you discounted drinks, or Fresno’s Mad Tight 90’s (also Thursday, May 14) featuring “Saved by the Bell” star Dennis Haskins (“Mr. Belding”). As part of the promoton, the Grizzlies created 90's record album cover replicas featuring some of their players (pictured is Eli Whiteside). Kooky? Yes. Offensive to traditionalists? I hope not. Baseball, and especially minor league baseball, has a long and rich tradition of quirky promotions that just adds to the fun of the game. Reader FeedbackThere are no comments yet for this article.
