The Brett Brothers to Buy Rancho Cucamonga QuakesMove Necessitates Sell of MavericksThursday, March 19, 2009
Bobby Brett and his brother, Hall of Fame player George Brett are leading an ownership group that will purchase the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes according to current majority owner Hank Stickney. The Brett brothers have established a solid reputation as owners in minor league baseball. Bobby Brett is a part owner of the Spokane Indians, and George Brett’s part-ownership of the Tri-Cities Dust Devils has been credited for turning that team’s fortunate around. Not that Rancho Cucamonga has needed anything in the way of a turnaround; the team has led the California League in attendance for the last several years. The sale will need to be approved by the California League, Minor League Baseball, and Major League Baseball. Because owners are not allowed to own two teams in the same league, the Brett Brothers will need to sell the High Desert Mavericks. No word has been given on possible buyers, but the move is certain to fan rumors of the team's move, possibly to the Carolina League (along with Bakersfield). CaProParks.com will have an update as soon as it is available. Reader FeedbackThere are no comments yet for this article. Be the first to post!
