The California League all-star team defeated their Carolina League counterparts Tuesday night with a 4-3 victory at BB&T Coastal Field in Myrtle Beach. The winning run came in the top of the ninth with a two-out RBI single by Stockton's Stephen Parker.
An hour before game time, 5 foot, 1 inch, 115 pound Eri Yoshida makes her way towards the Chico Outlaws clubhouse. Half a dozen cameramen swing around to catch the stroll. A teammate lets Yoshida know it is safe to enter the locker room, but a fan stops her to try out the new Japanese word she's learned.
Juan Oramas of the Lake Elsinore Storm (Single-A Advanced) was just two outs away from becoming not only the first member of the Storm to pitch a no-hitter in franchise history, but also the first to throw a perfect game in the California League since 1999. That all changed when Lancaster's Brandon Barnes hit a broken bat single.
